Champion Shanghai Bobby diagnosed with pelvic stress fracture

Reigning juvenile champion Shanghai Bobby was found to have sustained a pelvic stress fracture exiting his fifth-place run in the Grade I Florida Derby on March 30.
Dr. Larry Bramlage estimates a 90-day rest period and expects a complete recovery. Shanghai Bobby’s effort in the Florida Derby marked the only time the son of Harlan’s Holiday had been off the board in seven career starts. It was announced days after the race that the colt, who won the Grade I Champagne and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last season, would be given and extended rest and was off the Triple Crown trail.
“Although it is disappointing that Shanghai Bobby has sustained this injury, perhaps this offers an explanation of his performance in the Florida Derby,” trainer Todd Pletcher said in a statement.
