Champion Zenyatta foals Tapit colt

Champion mare Zenyatta gave birth to her second foal just before midnight on April 1, foaling a healthy, 145-pound colt by Tapit according to her official Team Zenyatta website.

In fitting dramatic fashion, the 2010 Horse of the Year delivered her colt at Lane’s End Farm on the same day as her ninth birthday. Her  leggy, chestnut colt was able to stand on his own by 12:18 a.m. and was nursing within an hour.

“Both are doing so very well, and it’s a joy to see how much Zenyatta loves being a mom,” the Team Zenyatta website stated.

Zenyatta delivered her first foal, a colt by Bernardini, last March.

Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, Zenyatta famously won 19 consecutive races, including a triumph over males in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic. The daughter of Street Cry suffered her lone career defeat in her final career start, falling a head short of champion Blame in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic.
