Changing Skies goes to Mandore for $4.2 million

Boasting one of the best pages in the catalog, the Sadler’s Wells mare Changing Skies brought one of the top prices of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale thus far, selling to France-based Mandore International for $4.2 million on Wednesday.

Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales, which also sold Grade I winner Pure Clan for $4.5 million earlier in the session, Changing Skies comes from a most elite female family. Out of the Silver Hawk mare Magnificient Style, the 7-year-old mare is a full sister to Group I winner Playful Act and a half sister to multiple Group I winner Nathaniel.

Playful Act herself sold for $10.5 million at the 2007 Keeneland November sale.

“I thought she was the best cataloged mare in the sale. I thought coming in she would top,” said John Sikura of Hill ‘n’ Dale.  “She’s just the complete package of a global mare that has run in the highest of form.  You have commercial success with Playful Act and great performances and many of those performances are current this year with Nathaniel.

“She was an absolute queen.”
