Kitalpha, a full brother to influential sire Kingmambo, was found dead in his paddock early Monday morning, Gerry Aschinger of War Horse Place announced Friday.
According to a release, the 13-year-old stallion was diagnosed with cancer just within the past month. Tests had determined that the cancer had entered his lymph system. The son of Mr. Prospector had been under treatment with a newly discovered medication, but it is felt the cancer raged on, and during the night it appears he simply lied down and passed without trauma.
Imported from Zimbabwe the unraced Mr. Prospector – Miesque chestnut sired six crops before being returned to the United States where he entered stud in 2008 at War Horse Place.
Bred by Flaxman Holdings Ltd., in Kentucky, he sired four champions.
“Kitalpha was exceptionally popular with breeders during his four seasons with us, and the quality of mares improved each year,”
Gerry Aschinger said in a statement. “While we miss him dearly, we continue with our search of more stallion prospects to add to our roster.”
