The anticipated first foal out of 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta has arrived.
At approximately 10:10 p.m. Thursday night, the champion daughter of Street Cry gave birth to a 130-pound colt by Darley stallion Bernardini, according to a post on Zenyatta.com.
The dark bay colt has a white star on his forehead and white on his feet. Both Zenyatta and her newborn came through the foaling in good order and are “getting acclimated to this new experience”, according to the website.
Zenyatta is the second high-profile new mom to give birth for the first time this year. Rachel Alexandra, the 2009 Horse of the Year, delivered her first foal – a colt by Lane’s End sire Curlin – on January 22.
Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, Zenyatta has resided at Lane’s End Farm since her retirement. The 8-year-old mare won 19 of 20 career starts with her lone defeated coming at the hands of Blame in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic.
