The first known foal by two-time Horse of the Year Curlin was born at Burleson Farms in Midway on January 12.
The filly is out of the Hawkster mare Zophie, dam of Grade I winner Appealing Zophie. Curlin, a son of Smart Strike, is entering his second season at stud at Will Farish’s Lane’s End Farm where he will command an advertised fee of $60,000.


Alicia Wincze Hughes is the turf writer for the Lexington Herald-Leader. She started riding at age 8 and was a four-year member of the Pace University equestrian team.
